The music industry is a elusive creature who morphs and shape shifts in the shadows.
Getting your foot in the door in the music industry can be a long, hard, and tedious process. Its a competitive industry, and theres no telling what songs will take off and be a number one hit, or be a complete disaster. Because of this, it truly is a numbers game!
The number one reason most people do not make it in the music industry, is because they give up before their work had time to take off.
It can take years to sculpt your skills as a producer. It can be even longer for some people who are dealing with different circumstances like kids, a full time job, or an unhealthy environment where they just cant grow.
Because of this, it becomes more and more important to learn how to manage your time wisely, and try to get the numbers pushing as soon as possible. The better you can manage your time, the sooner you will be a savvy musician or producer. The sooner that happens, the sooner you can start building a name and following for yourself. The sooner you can do that, the sooner it will be until one of your songs takes off and you can begin to do music full time.
It seems enough right..
Sadly, with so many things out of our control in this world and with a consistently changing industry, it gets a little tricky to stay consistent.
The best thing to do then, is to create healthy music habits.
When you wake up in the morning, go use the bathroom and brush your teeth. Then, go play your instrument for 20 minutes. Go make an 8 bar loop. Go free write for 20 minutes. Make it a priority, and push yourself to do for at least 3 weeks.
I guarantee after doing it consistently for 3 weeks, you will wake up and want to do it. It will feel weird if you don't, and thats exactly what you want!
If you want to make it in the music industry, music needs to be your life. You need to live in it, breathe it, need it. It needs to be what you think about when you wake up, and what you dream about when your asleep! That is when you can really start understanding what it means to be a full time producer, or artist. You will begin to believe it, and live it.
Ultimately, you will manifest your own success through dedication and hard work.
I hope these words get you fired up, and push you to never stop! You have everything it takes to make music your full time job. All it takes is a little time management.
